plumber is scaring me, how rare is this?
My main house shutoffs do not work (like the knobs don’t turn and they have all this white and green stuff). The pipes are likely all original and were made in 1942. Right now I can’t turn my water off if I had to, but I had a curbside locate done and if I had an emergency, I could call the water company to shut it at the curb. My plumber wants to replace all my internal valves, regulator, and water meter. Great, the money for that is no problem. The line that connects the street to my house comes into my basement, and then into this shitty serious of nonworking valves. There is NOT much space between the basement wall and the first non-working valve; it is probably two inches from the basement wall. Now, the thing the plumber is scaring me about is, he claims
